It is with great regret that at 06h38 on Sunday, 12 March, the organisers of the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust were forced to make the difficult decision to stop the 40th edition of the Cape Town Cycle Tour.

Weather Advisory

We have been advised that there is a high probability of severe winds on the Cape Peninsula within the next 24 hours. We strongly urge Cape Town Cycle Tour participants who are either not comfortable or do not have experience riding in strong winds, to carefully consider their decision to participate tomorrow. We believe wind conditions will not be as strong as in 2009, but they will nevertheless be severe. Cyclists and spectators must please take note.

Every little bit helps. In addition to donating water bottles and dog food to DARG, we at the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust did a spring clean and donated old Cycle Tour t-shirts, unused catering equipment and non-perishable goods in aid of the Imizamo Yethu fire relief efforts.

We want to say THANK YOU!

While we know that many of you are as disappointed as we are with this outcome, we trust you understand that our motivation was based purely on your safety and can assure you that we considered every alternative before making this difficult decision. We are humbled and grateful for the outpouring of support we have received over the past 24 hours, and for this we thank you!

What about the prize money?

The Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust will donate the 2017 prize fund of R220 000 to the relief efforts of those affected by the fires in Imizamo Yethu in Hout Bay. We are also donating water bottles to DARG (the Domestic Animal Rescue Group) who are saving and caring for animals from those affected areas.
